Recently, the research team led by Wang Shijie and Ma Wei from Xi'an Jiaotong University published a News & Views highlight commentary titled
Building bioelectronics that stick around online in
Nature Electronics, a top international journal. This achievement marks the high international recognition of the University’s research in the field of flexible bioelectronics.
Focusing on the cutting-edge international TopoLock three-dimensional topological interpenetrating architecture, the article systematically interprets how this technology breaks through the bottleneck of interface stability for long-term service of implantable bioelectronic devices. It provides key support for precision diagnosis and treatment as well as closed-loop disease regulation systems for epilepsy, facial paralysis, cardiovascular diseases and other ailments.
Adopting a triple mechanism of
covalent bonding, topological entanglement and hydrogen bond self-fusion, the technology enables firm adhesion between devices and biological tissues. After being implanted in rabbits for 4 weeks, the devices maintained stable signal recording and stimulation functions, with excellent universality of materials, mechanical flexibility and long-term reliability.
Professor Ma Wei’s team has long been committed to the research of flexible electronics and biomedical devices. This authoritative commentary not only offers professional interpretation of cutting-edge technologies, but also points out a direction for the independent innovation of high-end implantable medical electronics in China, facilitating clinical translation and the intelligent upgrading of health management.
